AUSTIN – The Austin Police Department reported a three-car collision at Springdale Road and East Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in East Austin on Monday before 5 p.m. involving a State Trooper vehicle and a school bus.
According ot the Texas Department of Public Safety, a DPS Trooper was traveling eastbound on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard approaching the intersection with Springdale Road when, for an unknown reason, struck the rear of a 2006 Suzuki SUV turning left onto Springdale Road. The DPS vehicle then struck the bus, which was stopped at the intersection.

The DPS reported that three children of unknown ages sustained minor injuries and were transported to Dell Children's Medical Hospital. The driver of the Suzuki was treated and released on scene, and the Trooper was transported to Dell Seton Medical Center.
Officials said 39 kids were on the bus and two other adults refused treatment.

According to ATX Transportation, all westbound lanes were shut down and only one northbound lane remained open after the accident.
Representatives from KIPP Austin Public Schools said Monday night that one family chose to take their student to an urgent care clinic as a precaution, but no major injuries were reported. They reported that an Apple Company bus was transporting the students from KIPP Austin Leadership Elementary and KIPP Austin Vista students.
Staff from both schools arrived on scene and immediately notified parents and school teams, along with the Apple Bus Company Emergency Management Response Team, who implemented their emergency protocols for buss accidents, KIPP representatives said.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the two students who went to the hospital, as well as the State Trooper involved in the accident. We will continue to monitor the health of the students and are working to support their families in any way we can," KIPP representatives wrote in a press release.

EAST AUSTIN, TX — A Texas Department of Public Safety vehicle collided with a school bus in a three-vehicle crash Monday afternoon, according to reports.
The crash occurred just before 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of Springdale Road and E. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, police said. About 40 children reportedly were on the school bus at the time of the wreck, one of whom was transported to the hospital with minor injuries not deemed to be life-threatening.
Also hospitalized was a man in his 40s who sustained injuries considered serious though not life-threatening. No further details were released, but Patch will update once more details are made available.
